I'm Sarah,
so nice to meet you!
I am a thoughtful, collaborative designer who enjoys the interdisciplinary nature of UX. As a former environmental paralegal, I leverage my background in research and evidence-based thinking when I execute design decisions.
I apply a caring and creative approach to everything I do and I aim to utilize my love of design as a vehicle to improve society in a meaningful way.
When I'm not designing, you can find me:
-
eating sweets (chocolate chip cookies are my fav 🍪)
-
out in nature 🌱, probably birdwatching 🦉
-
visiting a new country 🌎 (in a post-pandemic world)
-
attempting a DIY project or doodling 🎨
-
experimenting with fitness (currently enjoying Rocket Yoga! 🧘🏽♀️)
How I got started in UX design
After working at an environmental law firm for two years, I realized the legal field was not for me. I enjoyed the research aspect but I craved creativity.
Having no clue what to pursue next, I conducted countless Google searches to figure out my next step. Through the 16 personalities test, I discovered that INFPs (that's me!) were an awesome fit for UX design due to their empathy, ability to compromise, and creative nature.
A couple of weeks later, I had read every UX article I could get my eyes on but I wished I could get the viewpoint of a real-life designer. Thanks to a forgotten locker combination and giant bolt cutter, I crossed paths with a fellow gym member, whom I would later find out was a UX designer. Getting her perspective pushed me to take the leap into this amazing field!
What I've been working on
Currently collaborating with 3 UX researchers on a website redesign for Women's Biz Coop, an organization that empowers diverse leaders, such as minority and LGBTQ women, to run successful businesses.
What I'm curious about
I am currently expanding my HTML/CSS and visual design skills to supplement my UX design foundation.
I'm also reading up on Green UX and where design and sustainability intersect!
